GASTROINTESTINAL SYSTEM & DISORDERS

The gastrointestinal (GI) system  provides the human body with the elements for ingestion, digestion, and absorption of basic nutrients for life and growth, as well as elimination of solid waste from the body. Many types of abnormalities can occur in the process.

Therefore, many diagnostic tools are used to determine the source of the GI problem. One important diagnostic exam is the esophagogastroduodenoscopy, or EGD. Excellent photos of the GI tract can be viewed in the Atlas of GI Endoscopy. And, other valuable information is found in the GI resources elsewhere.
