| MYTH |
FACT |
| The longest answer is usually the
right one |
The longest answer is not always the right one.
Test writers have long known about this myth, so they usually make sure
it does not hold true. Most experienced test writers try to make all answers the
same length or stair stepped, so none are given away as being correct.
This strategy tests the students true knowledge instead of luck. |
| If you don't know the answer,
choose "b" |
This is an incorrect strategy that will not help
in any way. It is fine to guess if you don't know the answer, but random
choices are not a good idea. |
| The first test is always the hardest |
Actually, the latter tests are harder because the
coursework typically progresses from simple to complex. It is best to
not discount the first test as a test trial in order to gauge the amount
of studying needed. A wise student will endeavor to make the best grade
possible regardless of the order of the exams. |
| I never have tested well. I have test
anxiety. |
This is usually an excuse or a "cop out" for poor
preparation. Either that or it is a result of past "scripts" or
unconscious messages that have been reinforced by repetition. A wise
student will write their own "script" and turn it into a positive one. |
